Press release -
Digital Yacht's 4G Connect brings internet onboard for Australian boaters
Internet connectivity on board is a must have now for boaters. Satellite systems can provide connectivity on the high seas but can be slow and are very expensive. With 4G LTE cellular connectivity now available in most coastal areas, it provides a very effective, low cost and fast solution for internet connectivity while in port or coasal waters (upto 20 miles from shore) when users want fast access for entertainment and browsing.
Digital Yacht's new 4G Connect solution is simple to fit and install. 4G Connect uses MIMO technology and has a built in wifi access point which can be set up as a hotspot on board or it can be wired to an existing ship's network. It's SIM unlocked so users are free to use any cellular provider they choose.
iKommunicate, Digital Yacht's universal NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 gateway can also connect to the LAN port providing boat NMEA data on the wifi network for use with navigation apps. There's also an additional WAN port for connecting to a 2nd internet source such as high power wifi or satellite.
4G Connect is available in two variants - the Standard model has built in antennas which will provide good performance when in harbour. The Pro model ships with two 48cm external hi gain antennas for exceptional long range performance and is the recommended solution for use afloat.
The 4G Connect Standard is priced at AU$599.95 and the Pro model at AU$999.95 ex GST.
