Digital Yacht introduce MUX100 NMEA data combiner to simplify marine electronics integration
December 2013: Digital Yacht have introduced their MUX100 – a 2 channel NMEA 0183 data combiner (multiplexer). Lots of marine electronic equipment features a NMEA 0183 interface to allow inter-connectivity between devices. Developed over decades, it’s become the industry standard and initially allowed data transfer rates of 4800 baud. With the introduction of AIS in the past few years, a new higher speed of 38400 baud has become common but the two data streams can’t be integrated without a specialist multiplexer like the MUX100. It features two ports - one configured for 4800 baud and the other for 38400 baud and allows the two data streams to be combined. It can also extract GPS data from the high speed port and scale down to 4800 baud for use with DSC VHF radios. This is ideal where an AIS transponder is fitted to the boat and saves having a separate GPS just for the VHF radio.
The MUX100 is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and has two LEDs which show the status of each port to allow easy fault finding.
It can provide a quick and easy fix for lots of electronic installation problems and can also double up on the amount of equipment that can integrate into a plotter for example. It’s competitively priced at 145€ plus VAT and is available now. Further details from Digital Yacht TEL + 44 1179 554474 or visit www.digitalyacht.co.ukTopics
